During week 3, I plunged into the work of finishing the Lieber collection. The bulk of this work consisted of following suit from my predecessor, as I continued the spreadsheet she began and was unable to finish due to quarterly time constraints of the spring. As I plunged deep into the "book" section of the documents, often times I would need to research the cover pages, and publishing houses. Sometimes, if the title of the book was in German or Latin, I would need to go to Google Translate to translate to English. For many of the documents, I created some keywords. This unique challenge is a skill I would like to sharpen as I continue. After finishing the book section, I have created two new tabs in the spreadsheet encompassing "Ephemera" and "Other Documents." I am excited about this next part because I will be allowed to create my own metadata terminology. At the same time it felt good to finish the "book" section and embark on week 4's goal of finishing the Lieber Collection, thus having a deliverable product.

During my second week, I waded deeper into the pool of my DFW. I spent hours building my repository which is, if you are reading this blog, on the screen right in front of you. Thanks to Helene Williams, I was able to see various samples of other students' repositories and brainstorm some ideas. I had a great time building this site and would love to have been able to spend more time on the design. Perhaps down the road I can add my other classes and build a true portfolio. I think that would be time well spent.

Also in week 2, I finalized my Learning Outcome Agreement. This is the contextualization of the project's objects and goals, along with the avenue with which I will exhibit my tangible production. No need to explain this too much because as the tangibles arrive, they will be in the Deliverables link.

Finally, I ended the week able to research my project in more depth. This consisted of reading the repositories of my predecessors, as well as going over metadata spreadsheets they compiled as they worked on this project, Military Legal Resources. Stay tuned for week where I seek to complete my first deliverable!

I am pleased to commence my first blog post. My position will begin by creating metadata for documents that are part of the JAG (The Judge Advocate General's Legal Center and School) School's Military Legal Resources which are housed in the Law Library of Congress' online digitized collection.

My first week began with a meeting with my predecessor, Anna Gibson. She gave me a tour of the website and samples of her spreadsheets which she used for her project. This proved to be invaluable for me, and I hope to pay it forward to a future intern if given the opportunity. The rest of the week I was on bedrest from a fractured toe, and I decided to give myself a break as I had just come off a strenuous quarter

Be on the lookout for Week 2's blog coming up shortly!
